Equity Guard, Basket Max Loss and Profit Target

Tool version: O!kurra Capital Defense EA 2.00

15.1 Basket guardians — what they share, what sets them apart

Equity Guard (EG) and Profit Target (PT) are account guardians that work in the rhythm of the position basket — from the moment the basket empties (zero positions) to the moment it empties again. We call this cycle the basket memory (section 15.2). Together with Daily P/L Limits (chapter 14, daily rhythm) they form the account guardian layer.

This layer also contains a third, simpler mechanism — Basket Max Loss — serving as a safety net on the basket’s loss side (section 15.5).

What EG and PT share: both operate in the basket cycle, both have currency/percent modes (like DPL — chapter 14.5), both have the same Stop Trading After options (section 15.8), both are visible and editable from the panel (Target Blocks), both are disabled by default (value 0).

What sets EG and PT apart:

AspectEquity Guard (EG)Profit Target (PT)
What it tracksTotal PnL of the basket (floating + realized)only the realized PnL of the basket
Typical roleprotecting profit in motion (target / trailing)profit goal from realized trades
Trailing?yes (Distance parameter)no (static threshold)
Closing modesalways the whole basketclose all or losing only

In short: EG watches what is “flowing” through the account right now (including open positions, mark-to-market). PT watches only what has already been closed (realized). EG can react to a large floating profit before you close anything; PT waits until you actually realize the profit.

Note — a change from older descriptions. In earlier versions of the manual Equity Guard was described as a two-sided mechanism (it could also protect against loss with a negative threshold). In the current version EG works on the profit side (Start is a positive threshold: a target or a profit trailing), and protection on the basket’s loss side is handled by the separate Basket Max Loss (section 15.5). On the loss side you therefore have: per-position Stop Loss (chapter 9), Basket Max Loss (basket) and Daily Loss (day).

15.2 Basket memory — “PnL since the last zero”

EG, PT and Basket Max Loss use the same reference point: the moment the basket was last empty. “Empty” means: zero open positions AND zero pending orders — a lone pending order (with no open position at all) still keeps the cycle alive. PnL is counted forward from that moment.

Mechanics:

  1. No positions and no pendings → the cycle starts, PnL = 0.
  2. A button opens the first position → the basket is no longer empty, PnL counts from that moment.
  3. Positions are opened and closed, PnL accumulates (floating from open ones + realized from closed ones).
  4. When all positions are closed and all pendings disappear (SL, TP, BEa, Target Line, Close All, anything) — the basket is emptied.
  5. The basket memory PnL resets; a new cycle starts from zero.

Bulk closes reset the cycle immediately. Every commanded “close all” — from Equity Guard, Profit Target (in “close all” mode), Basket Max Loss, a DPL hard stop or a manual Close All — immediately moves the basket’s reference point to “now”, without waiting for an empty basket to be detected. Thanks to this, the next round of positions is counted from zero even when trading is continuous and the basket formally never stood empty for a single moment (e.g. a new pending appeared in the same second).
